Just wanted to share with you what I did with my workboxes.  I'm using the sterilite drawers system for my workboxes.  I'm still using my task cards as well.  I just put them into the drawer with what they have to work on.  I cut some scrapbook cardstock to the size of the drawerfronts and added a little decoration to them.  Just wanted to share a pretty way to brighten up your workboxes.

I went to Target last week and grabbed some things from the dollar isle.  I got these small pocket charts and knew just what I wanted to use them for.  I am using them for the boys to hold their spelling lists for the week.  That way they can glance at the words all week and help cement the looks of them into their heads. So, for awhile now I've been wanting to replace my whiteboard with a chalkboard.  I personally think that chalkboards are better to have.  Whiteboards leave "ghosting" marks after being erased.  If the kids don't put the caps back on the markers tight enough they dry out.  Also, the Expo markers get pretty darn expensive! We're working our way through Story of the World Vol 1, and we're starting to really enjoy it.  It was slow going at first, but now we're starting to pick up steam for it.  The first week of our school year we studied "The Earliest People" and made cave paintings to help them understand how they might have conveyed their art.  My youngest son has been learning about seeds since last week.

So with using a curriculum that comes with lesson plans, I really needed to put together my own planner for the year.  We use Catholic Heritage Curricula and they have lesson plans that maps everything out for me, (which I love), but having to keep track of 3 different plan books is exhasting!  I also wanted to be able to seperate the plans by week, and I'm unable to do that by using the plans

So when I was low on space I had workbinders, then we progressed to workboxes....sort of.  Now that I was able to clear out a room and devote it entirely to a classroom, I am able to have my beloved workboxes back.  BUT.  I have tweaked the system (who hasn't?) slightly to work for us.  I use the work drawers system, I use the subject cards, I even use the numbers!  Here you can see the workbox

Today for art we made sun catchers for Easter! So I've been using the Work Binders for a year now and I was getting tired of having to fill them every night, which meant hunting down all the papers in different folders and such for all the kids.  Now I have the whole week loaded at once!  Here's the new setup. Does your child get easily sidetracked when reading?  Whether it be from the pictures on the page, or all the words to look at, do they often times start out strong but trail off? My oldest son is a STRONG reader, but gets easily sidetracked by both the pictures and too many words.  So I made him this line reader helper.  It's very easy.   You start out by getting a sheet of printer paper.

Well, I lied.  I said that I wouldn't be back until later, but in fact I'm here now.  Today was our first day back to school.  I'm now going with a year round school schedule with 9 weeks on 2 weeks off.  I think it will work out much better for us and keep burn out at bay.  We started with all of our new books and I'll let you know what they are as follows. 2nd grade: English- Voyages in

Well, this is my first posting!  This will be a blog about our homeschooling adventures, and any other thing that I feel like sharing I suppose.  This first post will be short because my kids are still up and asking me a ton of questions at the moment.  I'll make my official first post later after they are in bed for the night.
